Jeremy Leslie

About

Jeremy Leslie, born 1961, London, UK. Leslie has been making magazines since he first produced a music fanzine in 1977. He studied graphic design 1979–84 at the London College of Printing (now LCC) before joining City Limits magazine and then becoming art director at early style magazine Blitz. He later spent three years as creative director at Time Out.

During the ‘90s he was creative director at John Brown Publishing where he led the editorial teams in the creation of over 40 magazine projects, including iconic magazines such as Carlos and M-real magazine as well as major corporate projects for supermarkets, TV broadcasters and mobile phone companies in the UK, Europe, US and South Africa. He has published several books about editorial design and established himself as a commentator on the subject via his blog.

He now runs his own studio, magCulture, and divides his time between designing, consulting and writing. Recent projects include iPad app development for Port and Frieze magazines, the identity and website for progressive online publishing project Aeon Magazine, as well as the curation of several exhibitions about editorial design. He is currently collaborating with Visual Editions on a new publishing project.

Jeremy is a passionate advocate for editorial design, regularly contributing to the creative press and international design conferences on the subject as well as judging awards competitions.

His new book ‘The Modern Magazine’ is published by Laurence King in September 2013.
